Xiaomi Mi4 Phone and Smartband Announced

If you haven’t heard of Xiaomi before, don’t worry. The little known phone manufacturer hails from China, and have previously released only a handful of devices. Their previous phone, the Mi3, was well-received by critics worldwide, so it stands to reason that their next device will be just as good, if not even better.

That’s what the general consensus on that device is currently, after its announcement this week. The Xiaomi Mi4 is a high performance Android smartphone, boasting specs which the manufacturer claim make it the fastest smartphone using Google’s mobile OS yet.

Where does all this power come from, we hear you ask? Well, the Mi4 comes with the speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, backed up by 3GB of RAM memory for those complex calculations. Displaying the results of those calculations is a 5-inch 1080p display, meaning that even the most high definition movies will be no match for the Mi4.

Also featured are some pretty high-end cameras, a 13MP rear and 8MP front camera. To store all your amazing content that you’ll be needing to fully utilise these amazing specs, some hard drive space will be needed, or in this case, solid state drive space. A choice of either 16GB of internal memory or 64GB is available if you need that extra room.

One of the most awesome features of the Mi4 is it’s compatible smartband, which is kind of like a smartwatch, but a little smaller, and has no screen. The Mi smartband does rival the current features of other smart wearables, including heart rate monitoring, and the ability to use the band to unlock your phone, and a 30 day standby time before needing a recharge. Although it doesn’t have a screen, we are pleased to report that it’s water resistant.

Pricing and availability are as follows, the Mi4 will be available this year priced at 1999 yuan (£190) for the 16GB version and 2499 yuan (£235) for the 64GB unit. The smartband is apparently very cheap, starting at just 13 of America’s dollars. No info on where to buy is about yet, but your best bet is to check online. Anyway we’ll keep you posted.
