Week in Geek: HTC Desire 310, Pizza Hut’s Tables and Marty McFlys HUVr Board

Here at Gadget Helpline we know the news – we spend our waking hours scouring the web for the latest tech news, the craziest gadgets and an exclusive here and there. Yet even we miss some of the multitude of stories out there, so to combat this we present to you a roundup of the past weeks’ news: The week in geek.

HTC Desire 310 confirmed for the UK

The Taiwanese mobile wunderkind have announced that the HTC Desire 310 will be hitting UK shores soon – towards the end of next month, but as of yet no pricing has been announced.

The HTC Desire 310 comes with a 4.5-inch screen with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. It also has a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek CPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB of storage (expandable via microSD), a five megapixel camera, 2,000mAh battery, 3G connectivity and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Other than this slight improvement of the specs, the only other difference between the 310 and the Desire 300 seems to be the soft buttons being removed and relocated on the screen itself.

The HTC 310 will be available in the UK on O2 and Vodafone through Carphone Warehouse.

Pizza Hut unveils prototype digital ordering table

The greatest revolution in pizza history had been the cheesy bites pizza from Pizza Hut…until now. Pizza Hut, in partnership with Chaotic Moon studies, has unveiled a prototype digital ordering table. You would use the touch screen to drag and drop your toppings onto a digital pizza, creating exactly what you want. Whether this high tech table menu will be rolled out is yet to be seen, not just due to the initial layout costs but the amount of Windolene they would need to wipe away greasy fingerprints.

Back to the Future hoverboards are here….sort of

With 2015 literally getting closer by the day, there are worldwide calls for the future shown in Back to the Future 2 to become a reality, and while we getting closer to Nike automatic lacing shoes becoming a reality (not as quickly as we would like), there has been no progress made on the iconic hover board other than a toy version. Knowing full well that we will never give up on our dream of a replica of the hover board, those tricksters over at Funny or Die released a video earlier this week claiming that the board was now a reality, but alas our hopes were dashed again as the video turned out to be a fake.

It’s amazing that we all want this thing so bad, especially remembering that this model is fact made for little girls. The heart wants what the heart wants, we suppose.

27% of Americans think that a ‘Gigabyte’ is a type of insect.

In a recent survey it was found that 27% of Americans believed that a ‘Gigabyte’ is an insect commonly found in South America. As most of you will no doubt know, it is in fact a measurement of data. Other revelations included:

  •  2% said they believed a “motherboard” was “the deck of a cruise ship.” A motherboard is usually a circuit board that holds many of the key components of a computer.
  • 23% thought an “MP3” was a “Star Wars” robot. It is actually an audio file.
  • 18% identified “Blu-ray” as a marine animal. It is a disc format typically used to store high-definition videos.
  • 15% said they believed “software” is comfortable clothing. Software is a general term for computer programs.
  • 12% said “USB” is the acronym for a European country. In fact, USB is a type of connector.

And my personal favourite;

  • 10% believed that HTML was an STD.
