Come next year, people who use Virgin as their internet service provider will be able to use Virgin’s new amazing service; ultra fast 100mb broadband.
Virgin says that the service will begin at the end of this year and the early part of the next and even more temptingly, by then will be piloting an amazing 200mb program. People have been attracted to Virgin speedy internet before, with 28,600 households converting to their service in the last quarter of 2009. Coupling that with the other 4.77 million UK customers makes Virgin’s customer base pretty impressive.
This new 100mb broadband is one step closer to the broadband enjoyed by the general public of the US, Japan and Korea, who are just in the process of piloting their new… *Gulp*, one Gigabyte broadband. Wow… I guess we just got put in our place.
Anyway, Virgin execs are hailing this as a historic event in broadband terms, bringing the UK up to speed with other countries.
Calculations however, tell an epic story, customers on a 100Mb service will be able to download a music album in five seconds, an hour long TV show in 31 seconds and a high-def film in less than eight minutes. Neat huh?
