The Great Gadget Debate: Man VS Woman

menvswomen1
We’ve been having a shufti through all our statistics this week, and we’ve dredged some interesting looking stuff relating to differences between callers of a different gender. I’ll try not to offend anyone.

Here we go.

First off, did you know that 64% of men who call the Gadget Helpline admit that they haven’t read the instruction manual compared with only 24% of women. I guess it’s perfectly natural though, I mean, does a real man let a simple piece of paper tell him how to do something? Never! A real man just stabs blindly at buttons with his gigantic man-fingers until the thing works. Or breaks. It’s simple genetics.

Here’s another fun fact; 12% of all calls received to the Gadget Helpline from men are solved by the fact that the caller had neglected to plug in and / or turn on their electrical appliance compared with only 7% of women who experience the same problem. In an unrelated announcement, I’m sorry to report that 12% of men and 7% of women need their heads examined. You know who you are.

For our next statistic slice, we found that women spend on average 32% longer on the phone to the Gadget Helpline discussing their gadget problems than men but males are nearly twice as likely to call back about a problem that they thought they had resolved during their call (47% higher call back rate). So basically, women will talk for hours and solve the problem, while men give short, gruff responses and eventually have to call again later. Hmmm… something tells me that men are not good at taking instructions. It’s probably why we invent so many amazing things all by ourselves.

Lastly, we have also noticed how more women seem to sometimes lack confidence with their gadgets than men. In 17% of cases, females will call us with a perfectly functioning gadget asking if they’re doing the right thing. Now compare that with just 9% of males doing the same thing. Interesting, and we can’t fault you all for checking, it’s your subscription, you can do what you want with it. (Except sell it to your neighbours because that would be very very bad.)

So there you have it, some fun and interesting facts about our callers. According to the stats, it seems that women are less technically inclined but are better at following instructions, and men are more technically inclined but overconfident in their knowledge. Anyway, I’ll leave you with this. It doesn’t matter what gender you are, as long as we can help you out. Have a nice day.
