There’s a large shadow looming on the horizon in the smartphone world. Sony’s gigantic Xperia Z Ultra overshadows even the Samsung Galaxy Note II and without a doubt the company’s biggest and most powerful smartphone to date.
We’ve been gagging to find out when we’ll be able to get our hands – presumably both of them will be required – on this behemoth. Fortunately our friends over at Unlocked Mobiles have secured some pricing and release info from Sony, so we needn’t wonder any longer.
The Xperia Z Ultra will hit UK shelves from September 12th, with the SIM-free model priced at a cool £600. When you consider how much smartphone you’re getting for that money and compare the Galaxy S4 which is priced at around £540, it’s not too bad a price tag.
We’ve not yet heard any confirmation on prices or launch dates for the giant phone from our UK networks, although we do expect most of them to jump on board and offer such a premium phone. Other SIM-free retailers have also confirmed they will be stocking the phone, with Clove also offering the Ultra for £599 and Expansys pricing it at £639. Expansys quotes a retail date of September 6th whilst Clove goes with the 13th, so there seems to be some varying information available, all of which Sony hasn’t yet confirmed.
The Xperia Z Ultra is a huge Android smartphone, sporting a 6.4-inch Full HD display. Like the Samsung Galaxy Note which its size mimics – nay, dwarves – the phone comes with a stylus and offers handwriting, annotation and drawing features to suit. It’s powered by a 2.2GHz processor and runs the Android 4.2.2 operating system, albeit with a slight touch of customisation from Sony.
