If you’re a Formula 1 lover with an iPad then you’re in for a real treat courtesy of Sky, who has just revamped its Sky Sports app with F1 fans in mind.

The new Sky Sports app for iPad has been overhauled with plenty of great features, namely a split screen option when watching F1 races from all over the world. The key feature however, is the ability to watch two different camera angles at once, giving you a real feel of being in the car.

Sky had previously teased an impressive-sounding 4-way split for the iPad app earlier in the year, and this latest update seems to be a step in that direction. With the new app, the idea is to watch the race on your TV and use your iPad as a second screen for a different angle – something that’s becoming increasingly popular amongst TV broadcasters.

The app update is out right now and will allow you to get your dual screen on in time for the British Grand Prix this weekend at Silverstone. Camera angles include various areas around the track, the pits, and on board with certain drivers.

Asides from pleasing Formula 1 fans, the new Sky Sports app also adds integration with your TV guide and the option to set a recording on your Sky box directly from your iPad – ideal if you’re out and it’s looking likely that you’ll miss the start of a match or race on the Sky Sports channels.

Cricket fans will also be pleased with the new app, with customisable pages added for both county and international cricket. As you can do with football teams, Cricket fans will be able to tell the app their favourite team and receive news, scores, and results tailored to one or several teams.

The app itself is a free download from the App Store and is free to use for Sky Sports subscribers. If you’re with Sky but don’t subscribe to Sky Sports, you can choose to pay £4.99 per month to get on board.
