Samsung Galaxy W Hits the Big Screen in Korea

As if smartphones weren’t big enough already, Samsung have released an official announcement for a 7 inch screened phone – Galaxy W. The handset will be made available initially for SK Telecom in Korea.

Although it’s a newer release, it won’t be running Android 4.4 KitKat but instead Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for some unknown reason. It also features 1.5GB RAM, Quad-core CPU, 3500mAh battery and an internal storage of 16GB with an 8MP camera. It seems like the big screen is compensating for the mid-range specs.

The Samsung Galaxy W features a stitched faux leather back which mimics that of the Galaxy Note 3 and S4 Black edition; but that seems to be where the similarities end between the handsets. The Galaxy W’s screen is said to be HD, but doesn’t specify whether that’s 1080p or 720, but if the overall mid-range specs are anything to go by, I’m guessing it will probably be the lower 720p resolution.

As far as it looks, at the moment it seems the handset will only be made available for Korea. They’re possibly testing the market first to see if it’s worth releasing it elsewhere. The handsets unique size makes it a niche market and possibly not one worth delving into with both feet.

In Korea it’s available for 499,400 Won which is around £291 here in Britain.
