Samsung Galaxy S5 Release May Be Delayed After Factory Fire

The launch of the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S5 may now be delayed from an expected April release after a fire broke out at one of the factories in South Korea.

The serious blaze in a circuit board manufacturing plant in Anseong required several hundred firefighters and took around six hours to control. There is also said to be an estimated $1-billion in damages to property and parts that were to be used in the new Samsung Galaxy S5 – this year’s flagship Android offering from the Korean co. which was recently revealed at the Mobile World Congress.

There is no official word from Samsung on how far production has been set back on it’s latest hot property, or how demands will be met on April 11th, which is the current release date. Pre-orders have already started out in some countries including Romania, the Netherlands and other parts of Europe, including the UK. The price of the handset SIM-free in the UK is currently set at around £600 and pre-registration interest in the S5 through Carphone Warehouse alone is suggested to be 130% higher than the previous year’s model, the Galaxy S4.

What we can expect when the S5 finally does arrive will be an Android 4.4 KitKat experience displayed on a 5.1” Full HD display and running on the latest 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB RAM. Additional gimmicks on the new model will include waterproofing and a fingerprint scanner which is built into the home button.

Release date now pending..

UPDATE:

Samsung has told The INQUIRER that the fire should not cause any setbacks in terms of production with the Galaxy S5. A spokesperson said, “We will do our utmost to help stabilize DAP Corporation’s operations.

“In the meantime, we do not expect any production delays of the Galaxy S5, as we rely on multiple contractors. “
