Let the three dimensional future start… well at least for Samsung and Sony it has started with both electrical giants officially launching their 3D TVs’ for public consumption. Unfortunately for us, Sony’s TV releases is only in Japan (for the moment) but Samsung have come out and outlined a full on Global 3D assault.
So what’s the Buzz… well we will start with Sony as they officially unveiled their new line-up of 3D TVs in Japan on Monday. Their Flagship TV will be the LED LX900 TV which boasts an Edge lit screen Wi-Fi, Face detection (for auto backlight dimming) and an anti reflective panel.
The available sizes go up to 60 inches with 240 Hz, WI-Fi (for video services like Netflix), Face detection (for auto-backlight dimming) and an Anti-reflective panel on the 40, 46, 51 and 60 inch models. Plus, as an added bonus Sony has thrown in a free pair of RealD active shutter glasses so you can actually use your new purchase.
The LX900 experience will come at a price as it is currently on sale for at £2,155 over in Tokyo and with no current 3D channels/media to actually watch on the TV it is a bit of an expensive “Investment”.
Any hints of a Europe and UK release were not given away by the company, with the spokesman sticking by their previous claims that Sony’s 3D line-up will be coming to our shores in the summer.
Now over to Samsung… less than a day later Samsung decided that they too will step up on the 3D front by announcing not only their 3D TV intentions but information on all of its forthcoming 3D products. Samsung announced a whopping 17 new 3D products across their entire home entertainment line-up from Blu-ray players to Plasma TV’s
Samsung held a launch event in New York’s Time Warner building and decided to invite a few 3D friends to help them promote the new releases, namely Shrek, Donkey and the Black Eyed Peas.
Once again Samsung bought out its 9000 series flagship 3D TV’s to wow the audience and to really showcase their 3D technology, the 9000 series TV’s sport a wafer thin 0.3 inch screen thickness, Wi-Fi, 1080p, 240Hz, local-dimming LED supports 3D with active shutter glasses and Samsung also revealed plans to bundle in some 3D glasses and content together in a 3D starter kit, that they are calling the ‘grab and go solution’
Animation studio DreamWorks were also at the event to confirm a partnership with Samsung and to reveal that not only will they be releasing last year’s “Monsters Vs Aliens” film as their first 3D Blu-Ray disc, and will be shipped with Samsung 3D products as part of a bundle package. DreamWorks also announced that this would be part of an exclusive deal with Samsung and to take things further DreamWorks have announced that they will be releasing its monster hit Shrek movie in 3D in the coming months.
It’s all very exciting, especially for our American cousins as we in the UK are yet to have any confirmed released dates or pricing, but there was a glimmer of hope as Samsung are expected to hold a similar UK event in April.
Sources are stating that the 46’’ 9000 Series wil be priced at $5,999 in the US, but their lower end models are expected to come in around the at $1,700 mark.
