Sony has announced that its new PS3 Motion Controller will now be available in Autumn this year instead of its rumoured Spring 2010 release. This may be a response to the news that Microsoft’s Project Natal is also due for release in November of this year, hence creating a bit of a Motion Controlled Power struggle!
The PS3 motion system will work by using a Playstation eye camera with a wand like accessorie that will track the movement and motions of the user, and transfer this into the motion of the game.
Although this may seem like a good move putting the PS3 motion controller directly up against Natal, it could also be a fatal move, as Microsoft’s Natal system is promising to be a completely controller free system that not only revolutionises the gaming world but also home entertainment and media management.
The PS3 Motion Controller was previously referred to as the Sony as ‘Gem’ but it has recently been rumoured as being called the “Arc” but this is yet again stored firmly in the rumour folder.
With the delay in place we can expect a large update at this summer’s E3 conference in LA with a decent showcase of the promised a varied line-up of games that will work with the controller.
But until November you’ll have to rely on your Nintendo Wii for your motion controlled urges.
