Orange and T-Mobile merger get’s European Commission approval

The European Commission has finally given the green light on the proposed merger of two of the UK’s leading mobile network operators. A T-Mobile and Orange merger was, announced in August 2009 as a 50:50 joint venture and has been waiting since then for the EC to give the go ahead to create what will undoubtedly be a super powered Network.

Possibly the worst logo ever!

France Telecom‘s Orange and Deutsch Telekom’s T-Mobile merger will create a new market leader, with over 34 million subscribers and a 43 per cent share of the UK market, this will bump current market leaders, O2, down to second place as far as market share is concerned with its 22.4 million users (28.5 per cent market share) and relegating Vodafone into the bronze position with 25% of the market.

In network and coverage terms this will also mean that “ T’ORANGE MOBILE”(Ahem!) will enjoy and undoubtedly seek to exploit its expanded network coverage and enhanced indoor and outdoor network quality for 2G and 3G services.

This will also be expected to result in better coverage for all 3 mobile users as T-Mobile currently share their network with the Three (3) network whilst Orange provide Three with its 3G coverage and signal. But the real question is branding, both T-Mobile and Orange are now established brands within the UK and both brands are expected to continue to have a presence, with a rebrand on the cards later down the line.

But for the moment we’re offering our “T’ORANGE MOBILE” branding idea free of charge for them, call it a merger gift.
