While other handset manufacturers are flaunting more music, megapixels and apps, Nokia has decided to take heed of our new penny-pinching ways releasing a back-to-basics phone that lets you make calls and send text messages and not much else.
The Nokia 1280 doesn’t have a camera, GPS or social networking features, but it does come with scratch-proof covers in an array of pretty colours and a dust resistant keypad.
So yes, instead of being able to Tweet your thoughts on the train, you can take pride in the fact that your phone is clean.

While this may not sound awfully exciting, the Nokia 1280 is really an ideal first phone for kids or for your nan as it is also as a particularly durable handset that can easily survive a tumble.
The phone also has a very impressive 22 days of battery life, so will still be at the hand for when you (or nan) forgets to plug it in for a bit more juice at night.
Another exciting point to note is that this phone is Nokia’s cheapest ever, at a recession-friendly price around the £17 mark. That’s cheaper than a pizza delivery!
The Nokia 1280 is a dual-band device with monochrome display. It does feature the essentials such as a phonebook, calendar, FM radio, and also comes with a cheeky little treat in Sudoku.
The Nokia 1280 is set for global release in early 2010, and selected markets will receive the added bonus of Life Tools – an SMS-based Nokia service that provides news and essential information to those out of range of the internet.
