So, many of you Xbox owners would know of the dangers of giving you console a quick jiggle while a disc is spinning inside, and you’d also think that Microsoft would do something about this error… or not.
Cue those good ‘ol boys from Destructoid, a gaming media outlet I implore you to visit and enjoy at www.Destructoid.com, and their haphazard testing of the new ‘box at E3 2010. What happens next is a noise similar to a chainsaw or a growling bear, and bam, a shiny new copy of Alan Wake is ruined by a big scratch… Silly bloggers! Anyway, it’s a good lesson, so let me remind you all:
DO NOT MOVE THE XBOX WHILE THE DISC IS SPINNING!!
A few tips to avoid sudden unfortunate destruction of your discs:
- Keep it flat: If your Xbox is upright there is a bigger chance of shocks jogging the disc and scratching it.
- Don’t go dancing around it: It is awesome, I’ll admit, but jogging it isn’t cool.
- Keep it out of accidental movement range. Think on a shelf.
- If/when you buy the new Kinetic, try to only move the camera and not the whole console.
- Don’t put your junk in the disc drive. Stands to reason.
In other news, reports are coming in that the new model Xbox comes with a new and more efficient cooling system, which is quieter and even better at cooling the Xbox down. Additionally, a new chip which puts out less heat is in the console too and to top it off the new Xbox 360 console only has a green led light, so all this cooling and change means less red rings of death, or hardware failures as folks out of the loop call them. Good job Microsoft… but disc drive… not so much good job.
