LG responds to and patches Optimus 2X ‘Black screen of death’ issues

The LG Optimus 2X is a bit of a beast on the smartphone market, with its dual-core processor and top notch features it’s set itself as the biggest and best of the current Android range, but it would appear that it’s not the most reliable!

LG customers who have bought the Optimus 2X have been reporting a “Black Screen of Death” on the devices; the phone would occasionally reboot randomly and freeze on a blank screen and getting very warm when used with the supplied charger.

These issues were originally noted on the on XDA Developer Forums some months ago and it was assumed that the issue would be fixed come the products release, but this was not the case as many users have taken to the boards and stated their displeasure with the issue.

However, LG have been quick to reply to the issue by firstly acknowledging the issue and secondly providing a patch to fix the issue

News website TechRadar has been doing some digging around with LG and has been given an acknowledgement and information on a patch:

“LG is aware that a few Optimus 2x customers are occasionally experiencing random device shut-offs. While this does not affect every customer, LG regrets the inconvenience this has caused.

We have determined the cause of the problem and have developed a software maintenance update to remedy this. This update can be found on our support site.

“At the support landing page, user will be given full visual description of what to do from there which is to download the Support tool.

Once they run the application they simply need to connect the handset via USB. The application should then pick up the details of the handset; the user simply needs press the upgrade button to perform the upgrade. It will take approx 20-30mins to perform update.

LG is committed to providing quality devices and is working hard to ensure that users have a consistent and convenient smartphone experience. Again, our apologies for the inconvenience and please let us know if you experience any problems.”
