The LG Optimus Pro QWERTY Android smartphone that broke cover at the start of this week has now been made official, announced to the world alongside another new smartphone, the Optimus Net.
Android Gingerbread (2.3) is the operating system used for both phones along with LG’s own user interface providing access to apps and social networking with Facebook and Twitter.
We’ve already formally introduced you to the Optimus Pro, but in case you missed it you can read up on it here. The Optimus Net joins the Optimus Pro in the budget Android Gingerbread smartphone bracket, but still retains some quality features.
Specifications of the Optimus Net include a 3.2” touchscreen (320 x 480 resolution), 800MHz MSM7227T processor, 512MB RAM, 3 megapixel camera and 150MB flash storage onboard. LG have designed a special widget to sit on the homescreen and bring in all your social networking updates, from Facebook to email to Twitter. LG also say that some European versions of this handset (P690) will feature NFC (Near Field Communications) for wireless payments and the US version will feature a QWERTY keyboard – we’re presuming this will be a slide-out affair.
If simple and cheap is what you need, but Android Gingerbread is what you desire, then these phones are for you. We don’t have an exact price for either yet but we’re assured that these fall into the budget category. Both will be available in Europe this summer.
