HTC ‘M4’ and ‘G2’ smartphones to launch after M7 flagship next month

  • by

HTC will launch a trio of smartphones this year, as it did in 2012 with the One series that comprised of the flagship One X, the mid-range One S and the entry level One V.

As Unwired View reports, two phones known as the ‘M4’ and ‘G2’ will be joining the flagship M7 that we have already heard plenty about. That phone is set to launch next month at HTC’s confirmed media event, though we’re hearing that the other two won’t launch until later in the year.

The key specifications for both phones have been leaked, giving a good idea of how the phones will sit in the new range.

‘M4’

  • 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor
  • 4.3-inch 720p HD screen
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB storage
  • 13MP rear camera, f/2.0, 1080p video
  • 1.6MP front camera
  • 1,700 mAh battery
  • Android Jelly Bean

The M4 will be the same as the One S to the One X when compared to the flagship M7 – a very capable and powerful phone that falls just below the top dog. Compared to the specs of the M7 that we’ve seen, you’ll get half the internal storage and a dual-core chip instead of a quad-core, but you’ll get the same 2GB of RAM and 13MP rear camera.

‘G2’

  • 1.0GHz ARM processor
  • 3.5-inch HVGA screen
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB storage + micro SD slot
  • 5MP rear camera, no front camera
  • 1,400 mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The G2 looks to be an entry level device akin to the One V of last year. In fact, going by the processor, RAM and low screen resolution, this one could be more like an upgrade to the Desire C – probably priced similarly at around £100-£150 as well.

HTC will be holding a press event on February 18th where we’re expecting to meet the M7 for the first time officially, but stay tuned for more news on its two stablemates.
