HTC has just announced that they will be holding multiple press events on February 19th – in three weeks’ time. The event is likely to be the venue in which the rumoured upcoming flagship phone, the M7, will be announced after many weeks of leaks.
HTC has officially confirmed two press events so far – an event scheduled to be held in New York City at 9:15 AM ET and one to be held simultaneously in London (2:15 PM GMT).
The timing is particularly important – the date is the week before MWC, where many mobile companies will be making their announcements. With Apple and Samsung choosing to have events after MWC, HTC will be looking to get the first big announcement of the year (well, after BlackBerry 10 launches tomorrow). While their strategy of getting there first hasn’t seemed to have quite paid off so far (with no massive sales of the HTC Droid DNA reported), fans of the beleagured company will be hoping that the new flagship phone will be able to turn around the fortunes of the company.
The M7 is expected to be a 4.7-inch device with a 1080p screen – the first such device to be released. The phone will be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor at 1.7 GHz and will also include 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, augmented by a micro SD card slot. On the rear there will be a 13 megapixel sensor and the new squarish industrial design includes a dedicated camera button. The phone is also expected to ship with Sense 5.0; a new rather more subdued variant of HTC’s software skin than as was the case on the HTC One X+.
Are you excited for the HTC M7 and the rest of the announcements that HTC will likely make at the press event on the 19th?
