Gaming Weekly

This week sees the release of a brand-new Aliens vs. Predator game… and the last one wasn’t half bad, but will the fresh appeal of the latest titles in the franchise still  wow the punters? Apparently not… many pre-release reviews have flamed the game for its lack of originality and freshness, that and the fact that out of the three campaigns and species of protagonist to choose from, most players only seem to find one interesting.

You would think the multiplayer mode will be quite popular, what with the Alien, Predator or Marine to choose from… or not. Because someone decided to nerf the Alien to be way too slow to execute the fast ambush tactic which made him absolutely amazing in the previous game, coupled with fact that nobody wants to play as a marine, everybody just plays Predator, ruining the multiplayer experience. They should have cut out the Alien and Marine and just released the game as Predator Vs. Some Other Predators.

On a final, slightly more positive note however, the game’s developer ,Rebellion, has managed to crank up the scariness this time around, with some pretty freaky visuals in the more spooky ‘I’m gonna get jumped by Alien’ levels. The gore is also fantastic; see the penultimate seconds of this insider view from The Guardians games blog:

Overall, AvP’s campaigns look like a good middle-of-the-road way to while away an afternoon or two and the multiplayer looks entertaining enough, even with Predator over-population. Maybe it’s time to thin their ranks a bit… via bullets.

Alternatively you could just go and buy a more worthwhile title for the money instead. Overall, I would rate this game a 6 out of a possible 10.

Aliens vs. Predator hits stores this week.

In other news… Yet more Halo: Reach footage.

Aliens Vs. What now? I dunno, boring. BUT Bungie has unleashed the first Halo Reach Vidoc on their website, shaking us well and truly up… It’s only an entire seven minutes long too. Oh, and this is hype alright, but you know you love it.

The video really shows off the work Bungie has put into this game, with in-depth technical demonstrations of the game’s development, insight from the people who made it and some interesting new enhancements to the game’s engine… and, wow, for a game with a release date sometime later this year, there’s a lot of content on Bungie’s website… hold on for a bit longer, and expect a lot more in coming months.
