Touchscreens have become quite normal in the mobile phone world, and now the trend is jumping over to digital cameras as well. Canon have announced the release of the Digital IXUS 200 IS, in an attempt to keep up with similar technology from Sony, Samsung and Nikon.
Canon’s first foray into the touchscreen world is an impressive effort providing 12 megapixels with 5x optical zoom, and also features the very first a 24mm ultra wide angle lens to be had in the Digital IXUS range.

The 3-inch touchscreen offers “fingertip control” allowing you to take pictures, focus on subjects and scroll through images you’ve already taken without having to understand intricate logos on fiddly buttons. You can also use the touchscreen to erase, protect, rotate or tag your photos.
There is a Touch Actions feature as well, which provides you with gesture control. This means that you can assign your own creative finger-drawings to control a function of the camera- like deleting a bad photo of you.
Elsewhere the camera comes with Smart Auto mode, Face Detection and Scene Detection Technology, which allows you to just point and click and still be assured of a snap shop worthy of David Bailey.
The Digital IXUS 200 IS will be available next month in an rainbow array of Blue, Gold, Purple, or Silver and will set you back £299.
