Facebook To Partner With Mog, Spotify & Rdio For Music Partnership

  • by

We’ve been hearing about a possible Facebook music service for months now and it looks like were getting closer to the announcement.

Facebook intends to launch the service very soon and is thought to be partnering up with MOG, Spotify and Rdio according to Mashable.

It makes much better business sense to include multiple services as it will allow Facebook to roll the service out to more countries.

The new media platform is expected to be announced at Facebook’s developer conference on Sept 22.  It’s going to give users the chance to listen to music from Facebook.com and will give huge exposure to Spotify, Mog and Rdio.

It had been thought that Spotify was a shoe-in for the deal, but the latest reports seems to suggest that all three services are going to get a slice of the action.

According to two sources familiar with the deal, Facebook won’t be handling any of the hosting and will rely on its partners to do all the heavy lifting.

It’s quite a departure for Facebook and the music services – but it will no doubt benefit everyone who is involved in the new partnership.

It’s unclear whether Facebook has lined up other launch partners for its music platform or whether Facebook will open up its platform to other developers.

There are also rumour that Facebook plan to offer a similar deal to video services like Netflix – however, we don’t know if Facebook will go beyond the music platform announcement at f8.
