Yes, Amazon has placed 2 brand new Kindle eBook readers up for pre order on both its Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk and has introduced us to the updated, smaller, lighter and cheaper eBook readers.

Both the new Kindle models will be 21 per cent smaller,15 per cent lighter, with 50 per cent better contrast, 20 per cent faster page turns, up to 1-month of battery life, and double the storage which will allow you to store up to 3500 books on the device at any one time.

The device will come in two forms as a 3G and Wi-Fi version and a Wi-Fi only model and will be shipping to over 140 countries and 30 territories including the UK from 27 August.

On top of the updated Kindles, Amazon also announced the launch of its UK Kindle Store on the same day, with the store promising a huge 400,000 titles on its virtual shelves (plus an additional 1 million free books) with an Amazon promise to be cheaper than any other eBook shop in the UK (including Apples  iBooks store).

Available in 3G+Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi only versions

The UK versions will be priced at £109 for the Wi-Fi only version of the Kindle and £149 for the 3G plus Wi-Fi reader, and as an added bonus, the 3G version will not require an additional contract as you’ll get a 3G connection without free from Vodafone.

The price slash is sure to open up a whole new group of customers, and with eBooks increasingly becoming a household name the updated and cheaper kindles are surely set to be a big hit come Christmas time.

Jailbreaking is pretty big business, the process of Jailbreaking however is not something many people would admit to doing… until now as the US copyright authority has come out and stated that unlocking smartphones like the iPhone of HTC Desire to install application taht have not been allowed by the manufacturer is “Fair Use”.

The recent revision of the US copyright law also allows users to unlock their iPhone to switch telecom service providers, However, those who distribute the means of jailbreaking your iPhone could still be at risk of legal action, meaning you’ll have to do it DIY-style to be on the safe side.

Legally unlocked iPhone?

The place that this is going to be most apparent is with Apple products, where Apples sometimes over the top restrictions can cause a large amount of issues and complaints within its user base, and thus has lead to a large amount of user jailbreaking their handsets.

Apple however are still not happy regarding the decision by quickly making a statement to news site Bloomberg, stating: “Apple’s goal has always been to ensure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience,” said Natalie Harrison, an Apple spokeswoman, “The vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”

Apples general stance is that Jailbreaking and iPhone handset will open the phone to security holes, computer viruses, and hardware damage, but many see the lost revenue from the App store and products being the real issue for Apple.

In a hectic day for Apple news, Apples third big time announcement to its home computer range is that brand new update to its iMac home pc line-up including an overhaul of is processors and its graphics accelerators.

Basically there are four newiMacs in total but as with most computer systems each one is customisable to your own requirements/budgets so its a bit of a mixed bag for all of the setups, the main point of excitement comes with the is new fastest ever with dual-core processor speeds up to 3.6 GHz.

The Magic Trackpad is on sale via the US Apple store for $69.99 (roughly £45) and is currently listed on the UK store but there are no official details for the UK release.

Yes Apple have quietly launched a huge amount of updates to its computing range with updates to both the iMac and Mac Book Pro range plus the releases of a whopping 27-inch LED Cinema Display and the brand new Apple Touchpad.

Keen eyed Apple customers have noticed the now synonymous “We’ll be back soon” post it note up on the Apple online stores and a recent stock shortage in Apple retails stores suggests that Apple are readying their shelves for some new stock and some big updates.

Non Apple stores have also reported recent issues with getting hold of stock so Apple may be holding back to encourage people to buy the newer souped up Macs, new no official statement has been made but word is that a new iMac unit would have USB 3.0 as well as the forever rumoured a touchscreen iMac version of the computer.

Rumours for an update to the Macs have als0 been filtering through with suggestions that the new Macs will sport a dual-core Intel Core i5 processor.

Word is that Apple are also holding a special meeting for press and industry insiders tomorrow so we may see the announcement tomorrow afternoon!

It’s designed to fit into the market for people looking to use a computer for education as well as work in the developing world.

The tablet uses a very small amount of power, so in other words it’s not for gaming.  It uses 2 watts of power, although you can add solar cells to it a swell. It also contains a 2GB solid state disk drive, but also ahs a 32gb expansion system. It also proudly sports a seven inch touch screen.

£23 = Happy Customers!

The tablet uses the free Linux OS to reduce costs, and also because it has support for many apps already. It includes an up-to-date web browser, word processing and spreadsheet capabilities and an app library too, LinuxLibrary.

The researchers have used cheap components and economies of scale to reduce the price to just 1600 Rupees – just under £23. The Indian Government has invited global private industries to help reduce the cost even further. If this is done, it could be an amazing step to bring education and income to the developing world.

“This is real and tangible and we will take it forward,” said HRD minister Kapil Sib.

This seems amazing, we’ll keep you posted on whether we can get one when it arrives.

As of June you’ll find that you have to pay to view the two online sites – now News Corp had expected an initial loss, but the figures are staggering.

Web Statisticians have said The Times online has seen its UK readership figures drop from 15% to 4.6% a dramatic fall.

If you compared these figures to their total unique visitors from February – it makes interesting reading – they have seen their total unique visitors fall from over a million to 332,800.

And it could be even worse because it has been suggested, that of the 332,800 who went to the site, only 80,500 visitors actually went to the paid-for section, which in anyone’s book is a terrible result – essentially equating to a 90% loss.

So it would seem that the market has spoken and it doesn’t look good. Although The Times have said that a smaller more loyal readership could be balanced by increasingly targeted advertising campaigns – so every cloud has silver lining we suppose.
