The biggest of these devices are probably the HTC Desire and Legend handsets which are currently flying off the shelves and have been a big favourite of the Gadget Helpline since their initial release, so like most HTC lovers we have been eagerly awaiting the release of the FroYo software for our own HTC Desires and Legends.

Well good news may have  arrived today, as HTC’s European director Mark Moons has caused a bit of a stir by tweeting that the company will begin the FroYo rollout as soon as tomorrow!

Moons tweeted: “We beginnen vanaf morgen met de upgrades naar Android 2.2 voor Desire, later meer devices”, which roughly translated (using Googles own Google translate) is: “We start tomorrow with the upgrades to 2.2 for Android Desire, later devices “.

Now, if you do have the HTC desire this may still take a few days to come through as Moon also stated in a later tweet:

“That does not mean everyone gets [it] directly tomorrow…there is a bandwidth limit”.

The HTC Desire getting FroYo Tomorrow?

So if the update does go live then it will be a slow rollout to customers to save on any Apple like free for alls on the Android servers!

Last month it was reported that converting the HTC sense UI to FroYo was quite problematic and that the company did not want to release sub par software, so HTC had stated that the 2.2 would be in released some time in Q3 of the Year.

If the HTC desire is to get an update tomorrow then it would seem that HTC have fixed the Sense UI issues and can then start rolling out the update across the rest of the HTC range.

Yes, Amazon has placed 2 brand new Kindle eBook readers up for pre order on both its Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk and has introduced us to the updated, smaller, lighter and cheaper eBook readers.

Both the new Kindle models will be 21 per cent smaller,15 per cent lighter, with 50 per cent better contrast, 20 per cent faster page turns, up to 1-month of battery life, and double the storage which will allow you to store up to 3500 books on the device at any one time.

The device will come in two forms as a 3G and Wi-Fi version and a Wi-Fi only model and will be shipping to over 140 countries and 30 territories including the UK from 27 August.

On top of the updated Kindles, Amazon also announced the launch of its UK Kindle Store on the same day, with the store promising a huge 400,000 titles on its virtual shelves (plus an additional 1 million free books) with an Amazon promise to be cheaper than any other eBook shop in the UK (including Apples  iBooks store).

Available in 3G+Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi only versions

The UK versions will be priced at £109 for the Wi-Fi only version of the Kindle and £149 for the 3G plus Wi-Fi reader, and as an added bonus, the 3G version will not require an additional contract as you’ll get a 3G connection without free from Vodafone.

The price slash is sure to open up a whole new group of customers, and with eBooks increasingly becoming a household name the updated and cheaper kindles are surely set to be a big hit come Christmas time.

The subscription television service has now given an official date of the 1st of October for its first ever 3D channels and will start off its 3D line-up with full coverage of the Ryder Cup from Celtic Manor.

Customers who already have a Sky+HD  box and the HD service will get the 3D channel for free and some major Hollywood studios have also upped the service by offering a handful of 3D blockbusters including Monsters vs. Aliens and Alice In Wonderland, with both premiering in 3D before Christmas and full coverage of the Premier League football also available from launch.

So if you have a spare few thousand pounds, you can get hold of a 3D TV and enjoy all the premierships goals in glorious HD in the comfort of your own home, if you haven’t just pop on down to one of the 1500 pubs that will be offering 3D.

The R4 adapter now ilegal to buy, sell or own

R4 Cards are a third party peripheral that allows the user to download and install illegally downloaded games to the Nintendo handheld DS ranges. Users can download and save multiple games on one cartridge and can play them from the memory of the cartridge.

Originally the R4 card was designed to play independent and emulated classic Game Boy games on the newer consoles, but in recent years the cartridges have become synonymous with illegal downloading of current games.

The company that makes the R4 cards, Playables Ltd, have had their cartridges deemed illegal by a UK high Court as the cards themselves bypass Nintendo’s security systems in order to function thus providing an entrance way for piracy.

Playables Ltd are still standing by their statement that the R4 cards are designed for ”Homebrew” games enthusiasts (basically creating your own games), the court disagreed with the company and offer Nintendo quite a huge win in its ongoing piracy war. With Nintendo’s continued support of the cartridge gaming is possibly to blame as the format is easy to copy and to manipulate unlike discs and data.

After the ruling a Nintendo spokesman stated: “Nintendo initiates these actions not only on its own behalf, but also on behalf of over 1,400 video game development companies that depend on legitimate sales of games for their survival.”

So the end is nigh for illegal DS game downloader’s, but as with all things Piratey, Where there’s a will there is a way.

Jailbreaking is pretty big business, the process of Jailbreaking however is not something many people would admit to doing… until now as the US copyright authority has come out and stated that unlocking smartphones like the iPhone of HTC Desire to install application taht have not been allowed by the manufacturer is “Fair Use”.

The recent revision of the US copyright law also allows users to unlock their iPhone to switch telecom service providers, However, those who distribute the means of jailbreaking your iPhone could still be at risk of legal action, meaning you’ll have to do it DIY-style to be on the safe side.

Legally unlocked iPhone?

The place that this is going to be most apparent is with Apple products, where Apples sometimes over the top restrictions can cause a large amount of issues and complaints within its user base, and thus has lead to a large amount of user jailbreaking their handsets.

Apple however are still not happy regarding the decision by quickly making a statement to news site Bloomberg, stating: “Apple’s goal has always been to ensure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience,” said Natalie Harrison, an Apple spokeswoman, “The vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”

Apples general stance is that Jailbreaking and iPhone handset will open the phone to security holes, computer viruses, and hardware damage, but many see the lost revenue from the App store and products being the real issue for Apple.

Reports are coming in from tech website Pocket-lint.com that T-Mobile customers may finally be able to get their hands on a brand new iPhone 4 as early as the 30^th of July.

A source close to Pocket-Lint and T-mobile has suggested that the handset will be going live this coming Friday but will only be available on contract as there is no Pay as you go options available.

The 30^th of July is also the day that the iPhone 4 handset goes live in a further 17 countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and Hong Kong.

The motion controller system is set to revolutionise the Xbox 360 as a gaming and media device, and is set to open the console up to a whole new market of gamers including casual and family gaming. Kinect will also this with an updated media setup will allow users to navigate and control the console without using any remote devices or even needing to stand up.

Both Play.com and HMV’s online stores have the Kinect standalone set (which include Kinect Adventures a which is basically Wii Sports for the 360) for sale at £129.99 and both do a bundle package with the new Xbox 360 4GB console + Kinect + Kinect Adventures for a slim line price of £249.99.

So alone the Kinect accessory is pretty expensive but for users who need a new console (or just crave the newest version) can get the bundle deal quite cheap.

Microsoft are still yet to confirm the release date as the 19^th of November so this could all change but for the meantime you can pre order your Kinect from HMV or Play now.

In a hectic day for Apple news, Apples third big time announcement to its home computer range is that brand new update to its iMac home pc line-up including an overhaul of is processors and its graphics accelerators.

Basically there are four newiMacs in total but as with most computer systems each one is customisable to your own requirements/budgets so its a bit of a mixed bag for all of the setups, the main point of excitement comes with the is new fastest ever with dual-core processor speeds up to 3.6 GHz.

These speeds are courtesy of the new Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 chips that are now onboard the new iMacs and the addition of a ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics card, and Apple are keen to team up the new iMacs with its brand new 27 inch screens but you can see more on them here>>

First out of the blocks is Apple’s new Trackpad accessory, with Apple stating: “Why should notebooks have all the fun?”…
