Well, we didn’t have to wait long to get our next fix of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2!
ASUS set our gadget pulses racing yesterday with a teaser video for their next tablet, and now the company’s head honcho Jonney Shih has announced and shown off the product in the flesh at a conference in Asia.
Though not an official product announcement, Mr Shih gave us a fair amount of juicy information on the forthcoming Android tablet, as well as demonstrating how it looks to the audience at the AsiaD conference.
We know now that the device will be officially named the ASUS Transformer Prime, though it’s unlikely to be running Android Ice Cream Sandwich from the off, as we first thought. Honeycomb (3.0) will most likely be the software you’ll find on this product.
The Transformer Prime will mark the next generation in Android Tablets, with a big jump in specifications from the Honeycomb Tablets we’ve become used to seeing. For starters, the processor will be Quad-Core, using the very latest in Nvidia’s Kal-El processing technology.
Jonney also confirmed that the tablet will have a 10-inch display, though we’re still unclear on the exact specifications of said screen. The tablet will also feature a Mini HDMI-out port for connecting it up to your HDTV, an SD Card slot and a huge 14.5 hour battery life.
As we saw from the teaser video yesterday, the Eee Pad Transformer 2 can also be docked into a netbook-sized QWERTY keyboard, effectively transforming it into an Android netbook. Jonney Shih also showed this off at the event, describing the gorgeous swirly metal lid as “identical” to the company’s new Zenbook laptop range.
The Transformer Prime will be ultra thin too, at just 8.3mm. Those tablet fanatics out there will most likely have picked up on the fact that this means the tablet will be slimmer than the Apple iPad 2.
We don’t yet have an official release schedule for the product, but ASUS will be officially announcing the product on November 9th, so stay tuned!
