Android Running PS Vita Knock-Off Surfaces In China (Where Else?)

  • by

Is that a PS Vita…? Ahead of schedule and flaunting it’s gaming stuff over in China? Sure looks like it. And on first glance you’d be easily fooled into believing so. But no, this is actually an Android-running Chinese rip-off called the Yinlips YDPG18 – and not the anticipated Sony next gen portable currently prepping for its first public outing this Friday, December 16th in Sony’s native Japan.

On the surface the unusually named Yinlips (company or device name, we’re unsure of) closely resembles the design of the PS Vita, so much so that you’d be led to believe these disappointing and dodgy devices were built from Vita spare parts! All the same buttons appear beside the analogue stick, along with the stylish curved shaped – but inside the Linyips is a system that more closely resembles Sony’s other handy gaming gadget the Xperia PLAY.

Running on an ambiguous Android system, the ‘official’ manufacturer can’t even confirm if the knock-off comes with version 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread, the Yinlips device features a 5” screen with a not so generous 800×400 resolution. Not surprisingly most of the superior PS Vita’s features are absent including the rear touch panel – and with a 1.2GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and Wi-Fi, which would be kind of respectable on any mid-range smartphone, this gadget lacks some serious game and we would not be keen to find this in our stocking come Christmas Day. There’s no indication of a price to be found, and frankly we don’t care!

China is unfortunately infamous for its suspicious tech exports and earlier this year a number of ‘fake’ Apple Stores were closed down around the country. Not happy with knocking off popular tech, these fraudsters set up entire shops in the name of Jobs. Check out the Gadget Helpline’s coverage of the story – Here.
