Great news Android Fans! Google’s latest Android operating System update, 2.2 (-affectionately known as FroYo) is now ready for release, bad news is that it is only currently out on the Google Nexus One handset and only for our American cousins!
Nexus One customers should be expecting a message anytime over the next few days alerting them that the latest update is available to download free of charge. FroYo will give users a much needed 2-5x speed boost to the system along with over 20 new enterprise features to boot including personal portable hotspot functionality, support for Adobe Flash within, and some much needed improvements to the Android Market.
The 2.2 update is currently only being released on US handsets with the update being rolled out gradually with the aim to have most users notified by the end of the week. There is still no news on a European version but we can expect to get the update in the coming weeks.
If, however, you are one of the millions of customers who have an HTC Version of the handset, the HTC Desire, then you can also rest a bit easier as Google announced that “We are working hard with our partners to update the HTC Sense experience on FroYo [2.2] and distribute it to our customers as fast as possible. We expect to release updates for several of our 2010 models including Desire, Legend and Wildfire beginning in Q3″.
It is good news to have a rough date but also pretty annoying that once again we will have to wait a few extra months to get our handsets updated.
Check back soon for more updates on the FroYo and all Android news, but in the meantime check out our Android 2.2 FroYo announcement article to see all of the updates (and a handy Video) you will be getting with the update.
